Hello MFK, I come from Fishlore bearing senegal bichir questions.
My 65 gallon tank had an ich attack that I didn't catch till it was too late, so almost my whole stock has died. I'll be replacing that stock with 2-3 senegal bichirs and 3-4 african leaf fish. I was wondering a couple things though.
1. I want to have a tile substrate, but the bottom black trim on my tank is like an inch high, so the bottom of the tank will be quite low. Is there any way to raise the tile with egg crate or similar?
2. How do I cleanse the tank of ich? It is planted and I will be keeping the plants. Will the ich stay free floating or will it die once there are no more live hosts?
3.What should I feed these things? I know i'll be using hikari carnivore pellets but other than that what fish fillets do I use? Also if I feed frozen beefheart it needs to be thawed first right?

1. Adding an eggcrate is a good way to raise it up. Any reason for the tile or just preference? Reason asking is it’s a good place for debris and leftovers to potentially accumulate.
2. Can do meds like malachite green and keep the temps elevated for 3 weeks is one option.
3 weeks. Different stages can last a while. If there are no fish once past 60 days (although I’ve read 72 days) then it’ll be fine, if I remember right.
3. Hikari carnivore pellets are fine. Can add tilapia and shrimp as well. This is the most common given by the most poly members here. It’s a no for beef heart or any fatty meal.

I just like how the tile looks. I could do like cheap pool sand I guess but I dunno i've never used sand. As for the meds and temp, will my plants survive for the most part and how high of a temp? I'm pretty sure my jaeger can go pretty high

For polys red garnet is better for coloring. So just something to consider. Pool filter sand is a good option.

Meds should be safe for plants. Temps up to 86degrees. What was ur prior ich treatment?

I was looking for that stuff but couldn't find it anywhere except in tiny vials for weddings... I am using a marineland treatment specifically for ich (Yeah i'm a med plebeian)

Looking at some golden sunset caribe sand for myself. Try Barton red garnet on eBay. May have better luck.

Well if u keep the tank without fish and planning the meantime it’ll fix itself.

Won't I lose my cycle though without feesh?

You can add some fish food. It’ll break down and keep the cycle going.

No prob.
