I am planning on removing the bala shark soon and thinking of a red tail shark as replacement? Smaller and semi aggressive do you think this would be a better choice with my gold gourami and baby 4 inch bichir? A ctenopoma and red rainbow will be added soon as well.

Here's a pic of the tank currently

My tank specs are below

a small tank try finding a short body albino sen.

Very nice planted tank! Well aquascaped! That is an okay assortment of fish but I would probably add more sen. bichirs especially since they are on sale where I'm at for half price at Petsmart. I just got 2 today for $3.49 each! Sale ends on the 25th!

yeah a 37gal is too small for a full grow Ornate Bichir. A short body albino sen would be fine.

Maybe a P. ansorgii? They only grow to 11" and have look much better IMO.

thanks you guys but you misunderstand. I already have the ornate and I will be upgrading him as he grows, he is only 4''.

I needed some help with the selection mentioned earlier. The red tail shark?

rainbows? anyone.

Red Tailed cyprinids are very territorial once they get older I would not advise two. Same thing with Rainbows I'd think about getting the 180gal for the Ornate right now worrying about replacing "shark" later

Sorry, but not sure where you got that from. Some people used to believe that, but in more recent years it has been revealed that ansorgiis are actually one of the largest polypterus, with the potential to grow up to 3' in the wild. Probably not that large in captivity, but much larger than 11".

To the OP, your ornate will outgrow that tank fast. As for the red-tail shark, they can be somewhat aggressive, and depending on its size compared to the ornate, the ornate may end up eating it and your other fish.

yea if you was wantin a small bichir try somethin like a palmas or sen or del. those are the 3 smallest bichirs. short body albino's would be your best bet for a 37 an then just 1 palmas.
