So I got a "Dinosaur bichir" last night from petsmart. Got him home and put him in my grow out tank. He was heathly instanly going after frozen bloodworms, then BAM 9pm my power goes out (bad storm). Power came back just after midnight and I went over and saw my 3" female jack thats also in this tank (growing her until big enough to try in my male jacks tank) bit his side, I saw no damage and he gingerly swam away into a small cave. This morning I found him laying near the top on a bed of leaves made by a big plant i have in the tank, its was kinda like a mini cave created by the leaves but only about 2" from the top of water. I thought he was dead but when i opened the top he swam away quick.

My questions: it it normal for them to chill out near the top or is he most likely there because he's dying?

Do you think the 3" jack can kill him? he's also about 3".

I don't think a jack can kill them, they have incredibly hard scales. My sens never hung out on the surface so I'm not sure.

no visible wounds, just thought the behavior was odd, guess not, he just wanted a deluxe apt in the sky.

LOL! Yeah, it depends on the Poly, but most of the time the will explore all the tank.

Some Polys will hang at the top once in awhile. I have an Ornate that would do that. I also have a Sen that did that.

I'm getting a 120 and 150 come dec/jan, which one will he do better in, 120 is only 4 ft long but 24" wide and the 150 is 6ft long but only 18" wide.

I have 2 albino senegals.... One spends his time hiding in the rocks, the second hangs out 1" under the surface on top of a heater...
