just picked up a new Delhezi and with in a couple days he has what looks like fuzz or tiny worms attached to his body. its eating fine, but floating toward the surface more than sitting on the bottom. cam is low on batteries but will try and have pix later

any ideas?

probably fungus , you should raise the temp and probably add some medication and some salt

will do. is this a common problem with bichirs? this is the first one of probably 10 that i've bought that this has happened to.

I'm not an expert by anymeans lol I got my first senegal bichir a month ago but I dont think small fungus/worms are common among any species
my advice would to be to look up some pics of different fungus and determine the right way to treat him/her

I agree.....many types of fungi...you should ask oddball.....too smart for his own good.lol.....he does know alot about fish, alot of people do here on MFK.Thats why i love this site

If they
resemble fine hairs or very fine pieces of thread, they are visible to the naked
eye as symptons include rubbing and rolling its body and thshing it can be cured
usually by using Jungle labs Parasite guard at 3/4 dose.(this is the most comon
parasite i have seen)

they do resemble that, but theres no rolling or thrashing. just sitting at the top of the water waiting for food. then he eats and floats back to the top and chills out like the rest of my bichirs.

Ok then it sounds like you have Monogenetic trematodes(skin and gill flukes) Jungle labs Parasite guard at 3/4 dose will work or ask at your favorite lfs (not petsmart or petco)
what they recomend (check the ingredients before use) copper and bichirs are not a good combo.

maybe it's lernae cyprinacea. you can use dimilin or combination between aquarium salt (1 kg/1000 liters) and abate (15 gr/1000 liters). usually it fry died in three days, but for the adult (especially females) it takes 10 days to completely vanish. you can use pomate to heal your fish from lernae's scar. don't forget to add heater (at 32 celcius).
