Hello Everyone!

Im new here in MFK.
Recently managed to get 3 bichirs,
Endli, Ornate and Lapredei.

They are currently in the grow up tank before i can put them in my Datnoids Comm. Somehow the Endli and Lap has been showing aggression with each other.

Is this normal? How do i stop the aggression? Its a pity that the Lap has torn fins.

Hope to get some advices from you guys here.

Thanks in advance :)

Im not really sure, but i have a driftwood in there and most of the time endli hides behind it. As for the lap, it always hang around at the other corner of the tank and once in a while, it'll drop by at the same driftwood.
Could that be the cause of it?

Yup might be as your endli has already established its territory there. Maybe you could add a few more pieces of driftwood or caves. That would make your bichirs more comfortable. Welcome to MFK btw :)

do they have enough hiding places and a big enough tank? if the bichirs are more than 8 inches, you need at least a 125 gal to fit all those fish.

Aye Thanks mate! Will add more Dw and make caves for them to hide.

Hope the torn fins grows fast on the lap.

Just another question, how well to they live together if their tanks are just bare and with only gravels as substrates?

Oh yes and Thank You for the warm welcome :)

All 3 of them are about 4 inches each. I guess its the hiding place.

Gonna go do something about it now :)

Hmm I'm not too sure bout that gotta let the experienced fishkeepers here answer that :p my case however i'm keeping 2 10" senegals in a 50gallon bare tank with black pebbles as substrate. Initially there was some territorial disputes which lasted bout 3-5mins but no fin nipping whatsoever. Now they're getting along well. Maybe you can try it out and see how your fishes react ;)

Hope your lap's fins recover fast! Bichirs are awesome :headbang2

Could be territory...could be dominance. Adding more driftwood is a good idea. If it's a territory issue, it should be solved with the addition of hiding spots. If it's a dominance issue, it'll work itself out soon. I have a few Endlis and when I added a few new Polys (including a Lap and Delhezi), there was a few nips from the bigger Endli. The Lap had some torn fins, but it healed and no longer has torn fins.
