Hello!

My LFS is selling a 3ft Freshwater Moray Eel, and I was wondering by any slim chance has anyone kept these guys before? By themselves or with Bichirs? I've read they're docile creatures so they won't bother my bichirs but will my Bichirs bother them? Any advice is welcome:D

Thanks,
Justin

The freshwater moray in question is most likely a brackish fish so I would say no to keeping it with bichirs

Yes I understand that but my salt content is higher then normal. I've notice the Congo Tetra's colors and activity is greater with more salt. I monitored the bichirs and two months have passed with perfect health!:D
So with the water eliminated, anybody else have some advice?
Also Rgnozales the LFS that has him was keeping him in non-brakish water for almost a year and I've honestly never seen one so healthy.

Aside from the brackish thing, if the bichirs are small enough no matter how docile it is it will try to eat them and anything else that will fit in its mouth

Alright that's great, none of my bichirs can fit in his mouth.

3' freshwater moray eel... Do you even have a tank to accomadate it?

How hard is your water, exactly?

Is it Hard enough to be considered Malawi? As long as the Bichirs have been fine for a good while (And, of course, your using extremely hard water or brackish), then I think it may work. I'd advise, though, that you first measure the hardness and salinity of the water.

I can get you guys that information soon.
Spirit, I wasn't planning on buying it this very moment once I get the OK from you guys, I was just wondering if it was possible that's all.

They are very docile most of the time but I would not keep one with bichirs If they feel threatened at all they can take a good chunk out any fish . Also with one that size you are going to need a top with a lock or some serious weight on it they are great at escaping. Like everone said they are a brackish fish.
