Bichirs for a 30 gal tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No, but you can use a 30g for a growout for a Senegalus, Senegalus needs a 55g.

a Senegal is fine in a 30 gallon but you'll have no tankmates and you'll need to be very proactive about filtration and waterchanges-Anne

Senegal is the smallest, but it's also one of the most active... wouldn't a 30g be a bit too small for it? I agree with 55g.
I agree also, but a 75g would be better.

And a 5,000 gallon pond would be ideal,However that wasn't the question was it?Yes a senegal is fine in a standard 30 gallon.-Anne

So you say a 30 gallon is ok for life Anne? Just wondering. Would a 20 gallon long be fine?:) Cause I have mine in that size but I am upgrading to a 75 gallon.

She's right. Your typical polypterus senegalus from the pet store comes from stock that has been farmed so long that they don't reach their full potential sizes, and you'll see various body shapes and what not, but mainly shorter length.

There is a difference however between an active bichir, and a bichir that is annoyed by it's confined space and is swimming against the glass.
