Hey since i´m egyptian and live near the river nile (like almost all egyptians ha ha) i have the opportunity to see bichirs in the wild. My parents have some fields behind the house near the nile that get water from the river through small channels. In those channels you can often see very large bichirs. The biggest are as long as my arm. They come up till really shallow water and they don´t really swim, its more like walking on the ground. They are not very popular on fishmarkets here, because they are very boney. And they seem to be pretty territorial. I know one large of them who i can always find at the same spot. I never spotted one in the nile itself. I only know them from the small sidearms and swamps around it. I´m pretty sure they live in the nile only to travel to the more shallow sidearms They seem to avoid the main river.
