just wondering if they would be good tankmates

should be ok depending on the species of the bichir
the size of the tank
and the agression level of the bichir some individuals can be quite mellow and others psychopathic-Anne

thanks, i think if i do put a bichir in a tank with an elephantnose they would be in a 40gal. long and hopefully my bichir will be mellow. ive been raising him since november when he was just a baby.

just a normal senagal

How much size has he put on in 3 months? What are you feeding him?
Some kind of Bichir is on my short list of what's going in the tank next.

he's only put on about 2 to 2.5in. in the 3 months. (but lots of weight) i feed him lots of shrimp pellets along with bloodworms, mealworms, and other stuff like that. hoping to start him off on feeders as soon as i can. does anyone know how big they have to be for that? and deffinently get a bichir, how big is your tank? you should get a dehezi:headbang2

That's great you got him on those foods, you should DEFINITELY stay away from feeders unless you quarantine them or raise them yourself. Too much of a chance for disease/parasites. That being said, they don't need to be a specific size, only what they can fit into their mouths (and sometimes much larger).
I have a 125g I just picked up a week ago and I'm LOVING it! The only Polys I see at any of my LFS are Senegals (seems like mostly albinos), and they're all TINY and young.
I call those FEEDERS if my Oscar got a look at them.

lol right. but aren't you going to put your oscar in your old 75gal.? i'm going to breed some guppys in my hex five, im going to get 3 females from a friend that just raised some and get a male from my lfs so the babys aren't retarded.(wouldnt you hate to have stupid feeders?:grinno: ) congrats on the 125gal. i wish i had a tank that big. if you dont mind getting fish off the internet you could try rehobothaquatics. they've got a bunch of bichirs. im gonna post some pics in the sticky in a few minutes hopefully. and im gonna try to get the guppys tomarrow. oh and i didnt relize how big my bichir got till i looked at the pics. he's like 3 time as thick and 2-3in. longer.

Nice, good memory Raz! Yeah, eventually the O is getting his own home in the 75, but I love him in the community. They all get along just fine, FOR NOW. I hope he retains his "personality" for a while, he's not a killer (the jury's still out on the last Clown Knife) and totally entertaining to watch. The 75 wouldn't be in the same room as the 125 (we're in an apartment) so I'd really miss seeing him as much.

LOL! "retarded feeders"... First thing I thought of was The Simpsons where Dr. Hibbard was looking at Homer's sperm under the microscope and they were all "retarded" going - "DOH!" and bumping into each other!
