Picking up a new tank, has 2 bichirs that come with it along with some other fish. Trying to read up as much as I can as these will be the first ones I have kept. Any advice or experiences yall could share?

Depends on what type ur getting. No specific water requirements.m but needs to be clean. Lower jaw species need a bigger tank compared to the upper jaw with he exception of weeksii and ornates. Will eat a variety of meaty foods. How big is the tank and what kind of bichirs are u getting? What are the tankmates?

Oh....keep the tank completely sealed as they try to commit suicide once in a while.

I believe one is an ornate, not sure on other. It's a 110-125, 6 foot long tank but not sure on rest.
Has a pair of synspilums, and a feathered cat. I will probably be selling the tank but I have a 125g and a 75g empty at the house now so I could move the bichirs to their own tank if necessary.

Yea may need 2 foot wide clearance for ornates and hopefully there isn't more than 1. If cb then will stay smaller than 2 feet. Might be able to get away with a 125g tank.

Oh ok
Thanks for the info, I will be checking this part of the forum out more now!
Once I know what they are I will start reading up more on those particular ones.

Most important is to not fill up the water up too high. 1" of air space minimum.

Just a note. Believe it or not. There are some lfs employees not realizing that their air breathers.

Congrats on the new tank and poly's im trying to learn the ropes too. Post some pics when you get them
