Title says it all pretty much.

I have a small bifa growing out in a mainly SA cichlid community, and have read one or two opinions saying that bifas are rather more aggressive than syns in general. Obviously each fish is an individual, but does this match up with your experience ?

Bump...... anyone have comparative experience of these two species ??

In my experience I'd say this was true! But only because I think the synspilum is one of the most timid of the vieja's. I've never had experience with Bifs, but I have had Regani, synspilum, Melanurum, zonatum and some other unknown vieja species. The most aggressive I have found was the zonatum- very beautiful and very nasty!!!

I have one Bifa, about 4-5 inches, at present no problems, but doesnt mean it wont change in the future. Depends on the fish. I would agree that Synspilums are more laid back from my experience.

OK, Thanks for the responses !

I shall just have to wait and see how my bifa gets on. He has been in with a tank 2 sevs, 2 geos and a choc since he/she was just over an inch long, so is very much growing up with the other fish. So I've got the best chance that there is of the community staying peaceful.

In my experience ,bifa's always turns out way more agressive than syns. I have never had a biffa that didnt take over its tanks, but i have keep syns with alot of tank mates with no problems.

To make it work you would need a big tank...In my experience Bi's are one of the most aggressive Vieja species out there.....
Synspilums are layed back and don't bother anyone...
Since they look similar you can bet the Bi will turn on the synspilum.....

I don't have both, but just a bifa. Just hoping mine will end up being one of the laid back ones. Will be keeing an eagle eye on him ! "He" is called Flower, so I'm hoping he will live up to his name !!
