Bifasciatus Vieja

Not sure about Cichlid Connection's bifas, but "The Wet Spot" in Portland has small (~1") bifa 'Rio Chacamax'. I bought a group of 6 and they are doing great. They are fast growers, but if you are looking for larger individuals I would contact Gage at CC and ask him if he knows the variant he keeps.

I've ordered fish from Wet Spot in the past. Do you have confidence that the fish are from where they say? Not being funny or anything because I'll just order my Bifa's through them.

I don't have any special insight regarding the accuracy of how Wet Spot markets their fish, although I can say that I have been buying from them for years and have never had any reason to doubt them in that regard (apart from some Cryptoheros chetumalensis that some say are probably C. cutteri, but even there I'm not certain). I purchased two bifa 'Rio Chacamax' from Wet Spot a few years ago and their coloration certainly fit the description of Chacamax as they grew (I also have some bifa 'Rio Candelaria' from Cichlids of the Americas and they look quite different). Here's a look at the Chacamax I had a while back - it's about 4" in the photo:

The new fish I've received are too small to show much in the way of color. I suggest you contact the sales manager, Anthony Perry, by phone or email and ask him to verify the location (his contact info can be found on their website). I've found Anthony to be very responsive and helpful with questions. My guess is that they obtained these fish from a reliable breeder. Wet Spot doesn't list a location for every cichlid they sell, so when they do I think it indicates they have good information about it. Beyond that though we are left to trust what they claim.

My bifas came from Rapps & I forget the location point, but it was not chacamax. I don't have pics, but I can describe the differences that I have seen - my fish have a more gold base to them, where the Chacamax has a more bright yellow color to the body. Also the head of my fish is a lighter, more washed out red - deeper red on the chacamax.

Still great looking fish, but I prefer the Chacamax location point. Try to get them if you can.

I also have a bifas from Rapps, but forgot the location name. He is about a year old, 6 inch, starting to show some red dots. I hope his red will intensify more as he matures.

This is a bifa "Candelaria" from Cichlids of the Americas. Looks similar to the one you got from Jeff Rapps.
