I've just moved from the UK to Chilliwack British Columbia in the last month. I've found a local store here in Chilliwack but it holds basic fish and no tanks for sale. The owner told me to go to Pet Smart for tanks and that the big fish scene is non-existent in BC and I was in the wrong province.

Can anyone tell me if there's any online suppliers of big set-ups (looking up to 300G) and also suppliers of oddball fish especially polypterus.

Thanks for your time

I live in Coquitlam, and go to King eds.. You can order 300 Gallon tanks from them but they are super expensive... Just check your local craigslist, often can find 240s for a good price like I got mine..

Thanks for the reply. Haven't got round to looking at Craigslist yet as still finding my feet.

Where would you get oddball fish from?

King eds has lots of odd ball fish like- rays, eels, gars ect... But they are pretty expensive, there is also Rogers aquatics in Surrey and also I have heard of a pretty good store in Langley called Fish addicts.. I believe another options is going down to the states to pick up fish and tanks

Ok appreciate your help. Have thought about the US as we're very close to the border. Not sure if I'd need a permit or simian to bring fish back to Canada though.

I've actually searched that and you should be fine bringing them over, from what I read is that you need to- declare it at the border as a pet, have proof that it hasn't been at some show, have the receipt and store name that you bought it from, and after bringing in those fish you can import any for a 90 day period... They mainly care about the taxes, just have that info and declare it and you should be fine

Thanks for that-really good to know. We're due a trip south of the border and I will do some clandestine research without Wifey's knowledge and make we have a "well what do you know a fish store?!." moment on our drive

Whoops had a typo- if you decide to bring some back from the states you "can't" import any others for 90 days.. Other than that you should be fine
