Do aro's get lazy like other big fish and only go after something that is worth while to eat, or do they eat anything and everything that they can fit in their mouths? Just wondering if it's safe to put neons in the same tank as a silver arowana. The aro is about 15" in a 125g tank, and the neons I was looking at were like 1/2" to 3/4".

I think you will be replacing neons on a regular basis, but if your aro has never had live food it may not even think about it. try it and see:)

No, he's had lot's of live food. But, he's kinda in a transition period right now. I'm trying to switch his diet from live minnows and goldfish to just shrimp and silversides.

I bet he would see them as food. just my experience. If i threw some in with my silver , which i would love to do...i know he would eat them

I guess I'll experiment with guppies then. They're a lot cheaper than neons, but close to the same size.

let us know how it works out:)

I think I seen a video or pic on here with an aro and some neons in the same planted tank. Cool looking mix. I can't remember who had it.

GuKan,
my Silver, thinks neon's are his "good boy- happy treats", quick little
.39 cent morsels of yummy goodness.

He has polished off a dozen in a 6 hr hunt_m_down and eat_m_up session in the dark. :headbang2

aro will definitely hunt done smaller fish if hungry, other than that smaller fishes like neons might survive for a couple of months but not everyone lol

Could be lunch!!! Keep your fish well fed!
