So I have a koi pond in my enty way, its a couple hundred gallons. Currently it just has a largemouth bass thats about 8-9 inches and some minnows that have somehow survived hiding in the rocks. I am in the process of draining it and re-doing some stuff for the spring. Anyways the only temporary home I have for the bass is a 30 gallon tank. He's been in it for about 3 days and I can already tell he is making a bunch of waste. He will only be in this tank for about a month but I am wondering how often I should do water changes? I dont want to over do it and stress him out. I was thinking once a week, about 25%. Or should I do it twice a week with smaller % water change? What do you guys think?

I am thinking 25% every other, and cut the feedings way down....keep very cool and aerate the heck out of the water...

All of the above are good suggestions. I would do it more than just once a week. The water quality would be more stressful than water changes. Lg. Bass are hardy and while they stress out, they still hold up and survive pretty well. and yea remember to aerate. the warmer the water, the more aeration you need

Thanks for the help guys. I unplugged the heater and bought a powerhead, all I had in there was a biowheel filter. Now that the water is moving and colder it seems to be a lot cleaner. I have been doing 2-3 water changes a week, about 20%. The bass seems really happy, I have been feeding him earthworms and frozen shrimp. I will get him back in the pond in the next week or two at most. Thanks a lot for the help.

So this tank is or isnt cycled??

If it isnt id watch the ammonia like a hawk!

If it is i hope that poor guy doesnt stress to death but good job on renavating ur pond!
