I receive a fair number of pm's asking me what hybrids I have available currently...so I wanted to make a public post just to let everyone know that the answer from now on will be no hybrids available.
I had to tear down all of my tanks recently because we discovered that the reason my 90 popped a seal is because our floors are utter crapola. Put it like this...they have the structural strength of a ritz cracker. The repair may take a while, so I sold off all my fish and drained my tanks.
In a way it's a good time for it to happen...breeding hybrid strains was a lot of fun..I had a good time doing it. But I believe I will be on extended hiatus from breeding hybrids. I just feel to do it properly I'd need way more tanks...and a much larger home.
When the tanks are eventually refilled I'll be getting smaller, gentler, pure species for them...Cleithracara maronii, Cryptoheros sajica & Thorichthys ellioti are under consideration, perhaps a few other's. These fish all have one thing in common, they exhibit one or more traits usually seen in a well bred hybrid fish. Nuchal humps, pearls, long flowing fins...perhaps not all on one fish..or even in the same tank. But that's alright, I don't mind.
I'll always check out this part of the forum, I do still love hybrids, I've not become a hater. It's just time. Perhaps some day I'll have much larger facilities, & will feel comfortable starting up a few hybrid strains again.
