looking for a larger species, but don't know these well, I know some of these guys get like 12", that or bigger (14-16") would be perfect. how do they play with fish, and give me any info you can.
Yea, PM Yabbadoo. The species in that size range are a little hard to come by in the states, and a lot of them have more specific requirements than the other Cherax or NA species. From my knowledge, most of those crays are pretty aggressive, but Yabba will give you info down to the tee. You may also want to check out crayfishmates.com, they owner ("crusty") is pretty much the end all for information on crayfish, especially Aussie species (which is what you're going to be looking for). ^_^
For the main Aussie species you will find in the USA..........
If you have a tropical tank >25 deg C, go for the big Redclaws (C.quadricarinatus) 12inch
or Blue Claw Yabbies (C.destructor) 8inch
For a cold water setup <24deg C, go for Marron (C.cainii or C.tenuimanus) 15inch
or possibly a Black Cray (C.preissii) 8inch
All will have a go at fish & plants....but some people keep them together without a prob....
Just depends on your crays attitude, how big he & the fish are...
I have a few more sites, better prices but I can't find the links ATM (I'll PM them to you when I find them). For 1 & 2, it's best to email them for stock lists as they don't always update regularly. ^_^
None of them have them in? Wow, that's a first. I wonder if that has to do with the changes in shipping. One of my LFS informed me that me special order was probably going to take upwards of 6 months to fill in because shipping between AU and the US had a drastic change recently. Crud. X_x
