i just want to ask,how do big fish, particularly tropical fishes normally behaves in the wild when it is rainy season or "cold" season in their area?i ask this because i do have 3 semi adult oscars(9 inches) and some flowerhorns and bichirs too outside and it is cold time here.in my 1st year of being in the hobby,i have observed that big fish when cold are mainly inactive and barely move and eats only little as if they are in hibernation mode.now i am observing the same thing..i just want to make sure if this is normal..
i live in the philippines btw..

I believe it would be that way, however your in the phils im sure its warm all year round there :) unlike in australia it gets cold in winter even below 10degrees

Since fish are cold blooded, their metabolism is controlled by temperature. When its cold, they slow down, and as it gets warmer they get more active (to a point)

How cold does the tank get? Tropical fish can only take so much cold.

How cold does it actually get there? What temperature is the water? Do you heat your outdoor tanks? In my admittedly limited experience, general inactivity is a normal reaction to lower water temps. I have forgotten to plug my heater back in after a water change and had very lazy cichlids for a few days until I realized what was going on. Didn't seem to do any harm to the fish, though.
