Hello, am wondering if I will loose big fish in this way, by jumping and hitting my Eurobracing and other parts of the top of the tank at times? Should I use a thin foam plastic about 1/4 inch thick to silicone to the Eurobracing and other parts?
i would have to agree that hitting the bracing would be unlikely, not impossible. i too would be more concerned with glass vs fish, or juming out a hole.
one of my 18 inch monster barbs jumped during the night he hit my glass top so hard he pushed it up and made it out of the tank, pushing the strip light out in the process..
lesson learned: if you have giant fish, weight down the glass top, even if you have lights ontop of it. they may not be enough..
A jag I have now came home with me with a severe injury from hitting the glass brace at the store. You could see what I suspect was his spine. He healed up fine though. I would assume it would take a massive hit to really kill a fish.
I would worry more about a fish jumping out of the tank than ramming the glass. I hear tons more stories of fishes dying from jumping out of tanks than ramming glass..
Arowanas are known to jump out of closed tanks. Even tanks with their lid weighted down can't stop an arowana from jumping out and dying. Check out the arowana section. That's one of the main reasons for arowanas dying. The Doctor.
