Sorry if this is in the wrong area. I don't see a Goldfish section and this is a disease/diet question..
I've noticed for the last couple months that my male Ryukin has been tilting his head down a lot and sometimes letting himself float to the top, belly up, but only for a few seconds. Yesterday though he started floating on his back and now can't seem to right himself but for maybe 10-15 seconds. He just hangs around at the top upside down and it's so sad to watch him. I had to mash up the peas and hold him to get him to eat.
I haven't been religious with feeding peas but fed him 3-4 yesterday and did an 85% tank change like usual. He lives in a 30 gallon with a another disabled fish who only has one eye. I was wanting to know how I can fix this problem? Do I change his diet and exclude flakes but use pellets (soaking them beforehand of course), plus what veggies would be best besides peas?
I've had this goldfish for over a year and a half, so I'd be sad to see him go. Any advice is welcome.
