I have a 22 inch Pacu in a 100 gallon acrylic tank. I plan to re-home him to a 240 once I get the 240 setup.
I had to take him out once before, due to an overflow (on carpet). Had to buy a Landing net, for fishing, just to nab him.
As you can guess, he got to flopping in the net. In doing so, he gashed his jaw on the access hole while coming out and going back in.
Question is… what is the best way to get him out again and into the 240. The access holes on the 240 are the same width as the 100 but 6 inches shorter.
A friend suggested covering his head with a dark shirt or something so he can’t see. Would this really work?
All suggestions welcome… except for hot grease and corn meal…

Maybe try using a pillow case or a bucket to transfer him?

I know a lot of people use this method on some of the larger delicate fish...

Thought of a bucket, but it would be too big for the access holes, and I think too small for the fish. But a light bulb did appear... a narrow trash can, like for the kitchen or office

a 240 if i remember correctly is 2 foot wide, 7 or 8 foot long, right? the pacu is already 22 inches ( and will keep on growing, and they grow fast ) and the pacu is 22 inches you said right? thats only 2 inches the pacu has a difference to turn around in, i hope you have a permanent setup within a month to 1.5 months at most. i wouldn't do anything lower then 3 foot width

Yup, Pacu = 22 inches. got him at 16 inches early 2011.
New Tank is 8x2x2. Current tank is 60x18Wx20H, he's tourning around in it, but I know he doesn't like it.
Future plan is 8x4x2.5, all sides veiwable, maybe a year or two.

still too small for a 22 inch pacu.... and a year or two you will have a bigger tank? may be to late, you may have a busted 240.. these guys arent called glass bangers for no reason... they have the strength and ability to bust glass, they are POWERFUL, i would say maybe max 1.5 months at most in a 240.. you MAY get away with 2 months but NO more then that.. 22 inch pacu in a 24 inch wide by 8 foot tank? WAY to small. ( they actually dont even belong in the hobby, or they should go in a big pond, about 1000 gallon pond or more! )

I agree with livebearerfreak pacu have no biz in the hobby as well as id sharks. These guys just get to big. I had a giant snakehead bust a 40 gallon years back and that was one hell of a mess. Just can't imagine a 240 break.
