I recently picked up a 14" jaguar cichlid that has whole in the head. He wasn't getting a very good diet. Mostly bloodworms and pinkies. I can't get him to eat anything. Tried almost every pellet on the market. Shrimp, tilapia, and mysis shrimp. He just refuses to eat anything and it's been over a week. Any suggestions? His hole in the head is starting to get worse so I need to get him eating quick.

Earthworms or crickets. Hole in the head is also seen in poor water quality.
A 14" cichlid will be ok not eating for a week or two. Focus on keeping his water pristine.

It could take 3wks from the time you put him in his new home till he decides he wants to eat. I wouldn't worry too much.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. They can go quite a while without eating. My jag refused to eat anything for almost 2 weeks until she decided that she actually likes flakes. Still refuses to eat the pellets though.

He is in a 180 gallon tank. Water tests are 0 ppm ammonia, 0 ppm nitrites, 6 ppm nitrates. I do a 50% weekly water change. The tank I got him from was a 55 gallon so I imagine the quality was poor. I guess I will just keep trying a pellet or 2 each day to see if he eats them. There's a school of giant danios in there he hasn't decided to eat so they usually clean up the pellets he doesn't eat.

Hi when I got my tank my jag didn't eat for about 3 to 4 weeks tried a lot of stuff he should eat when his hungry, eventually he ate prawns then slowly weaned him on pellet now he eats everything I put in there, Plus lots of water changes.
