not sure if i would be a good reference to prevent jumping. i started with four baby paimas (still got LFS video - will create link to youtube shortly).

One banged itself to death in the securely covered aquarium during one big storm event. For those who are wondering, the aquarium was 8x3 so plenty big for four puny paimas (housed with three sub-adult 2+' mellow silver aros at that time). I was away on construction site then. For awhile i grew them out in this set up until paimas reached ~3' mark.

Then i moved them into RTC set-up, which was not covered but then was covered when paimas moved in. Then i left home again so the care was delegated. About a month ago i got a phonecall that one paima jumped ship through the (it appears) inadequately weighted cover.... did not get to him in time (cos he was not even dried up yet).

So now i am with two paimas now. Pity cos all four were very well colored. Should be ~4' or close to it by now (probably longer than those fatso RTCs for sure). I must say i have not seen pix of RTC set-up cos my GF don't like going to that part of garden - a lot of vegetation = lots of mosquitos. But they should be quite impressive looking by now (caught up to my paimas that were lost last winter).

In summary, it would be hit and miss from jumping point of view (i mean your silver aro jumped but was saved in time). My neighbor's massive paimas do not jump but they are fully grown and pond is sunk into the ground but they could jump that height if they really wanted too ...

But glad to hear that you are trying out paimas. These are beasts that would improve scale of your pond heheheh imagine a fish longer than your gar by 2'+

here are the small guys in LFS. now i need to convince my GF to take a vid of them now ... that should be tricky

Nice collection. I just likes that the pim did not seem interested, but at the end you could not keep him away.

Yeah pim is hyper during feeding (but is known to go on fasting periods). RTCs are usually active as well ... not not this time for some reason
