After nothing but $15 very small red pikes thoughlout this town of 3 million. One long-time LFS really broke out.

Here's what he got in from somewhere in the NE (not Rapps).

A pair of Acutirostris--male 11", female 10", $450

A pair of Tapajos I--male 6", female 7 1/2", $350

Two pairs of Tapajos II--males 8 1/2", female 7", $300/pr.

Two individual males of Tapajos II--not priced yet because he thought he had a pair.

He is trying to pull a large pair of marmorata's.

The acuti's are a little sluggish and their color could stand some improvement.

The others are gorgeous.

Hey, at least he's in the ballgame.

Thought you guys would find it interesting.

If you got rid of your parrots you could make it work. But having that many large pikes in a tank with them would be askin for trouble. If you start the pikes out young, and in large groups it can be done, for a while at least. Gettin them all at such large sizes, it would make things very complicated for introducing new pikes OR new fish...as they are territorial and investigate ANYTHING new to the tank. A lot of the time this investigation involves their mouths....;). You would have to introduce them at pretty much the same time frame. You wait a couple of days/week(s) and it will be hell to get any new pikes in there. This will hurt your budget considerably trying to add so many large pikes all at once. Top that off with the chance that they may not all get along, possibly kill each other, its a risk you have to weigh wisely. ALSO, just because the pikes are together in the same tank and don't appear to be fightin doesn't mean they are a pair. They are in unfamiliar terriroty, they are disorientated, and not showing their full behavior. Let him keep them for a while longer, see how long they last together. If they are pairs, great, if not, he'll have to seperate them, lower the prices, or loose fish. Give it a little time...;)

Any chance with multiple females?

Females are just as aggressive if not more aggressive than some of the males....;). Most species are more colorful than the males though, so i see your desire to keep them. Personally though i think pikes look MUCH better when they are kept in pairs. Get a bunch of pikes YOUNG, at least 4 of each species...grow them up together, get rid of the extra pikes from each species once they pair up, if they pair up. You don't always get pairs....:(. Thats your best bet.....

Females are just as aggressive if not more aggressive than some of the males.
In my observation when they are young females are more aggressive but as they grow older the males take the cake.

fishman76092;411226I understand that mods are only human. Im one as well on a few sites. But they are in their position to provide information that is beneficial to the hobby. Telling someone to not support their lfs is the opposite of that.

Not once did I tell them they shouldn't support their LFS. All I said was the prices were higher than they should be and that I wouldn't get them, me, personally. I left it open for them to decide, even stating that if they want the fish, they are rare in their area and hard to get, then screw what other people think. In the end they are the ones spending their money, its their choice. I'm all about supporting LFS when there is reason to do so. Supporting a LFS doesn't mean supporting everything they do. You can still support a LFS and still not agree with their prices or fish. Some of my fav. LFS still sell dyed fish, which I don't support.
