Big resealing problem

So I've only resealed a couple tanks before, a 75 and 55 and a tiny spot on a 130. My brother gave me this 220 (I believe) that he decided not to use but its got some ISSSUES. The plastic stripping has been damaged by the heat and its peeling back. What would be my best course of action for repair? Should I/could I replace the plastic stripping?

Looks similar to a glasscages tank, the plastic strip is just for aesthetics. You can just silicone it back on.

Looks just like one of my tanks. Yea the plastic does nothing just silicone back on.
