On a boat!
I am in the process of moving cities and I am preparing for a big ray move. I purchased a large 8' diameter x 2' tall stock tank from Tractor Supply company for the temporary tanks while the movers are moving the tank to the new house. Here is what I have.

I am planning to run an Ultima II 2000 from the drain and back over the top of the tank. Any suggestions as to what type of pump to use? I was originally think that I would stick a Laguna Max-Flow 4200 in the tank and route it through the drain, but I'm not sure if there are enough threads for the pump outlet and the drain outlet to the Ultima. My next thought is a good reliable external pump with some good flow.

I am also planning to throw some pond netting on top of the tank to prevent the rays from jumping out.

What do y'all think of this plan as a holding tank for a couple of weeks? Any suggestions? I have about 10 12-15 inch rays, and 5 rays that are 16-26 inch. I was planning to run two of these tanks as described above.

Thanks MFK!!

There was a guy in the classifieds with a pair of Hammerhead pumps for sale.... That's what I'd be after.... :)

Good luck with the move Peter!

I'd have a few gallons of prime on hand just in case.

Sounds like it will be allot of fun and not 100% in a good way, lol. Sounds like you have a great plan for everything and will be good to go, I would think any pump would work fine also depends what you have around that would work well. I would say as well you might want to get foam to cover the tops just to retain heat better, I didn't hear anything about heating plans.

if your moving cities and rays are going to be transfered in the ponds i would go with internal pumps with flex line so you can keep them running in the move with batteries and less chances of a broken line.

Not sure what you guys have for outdoorsy type stores but any of them selling fishing gear should have 12V live well air and water pumps.

Myself, I'd buy an inverter to run the pumps you're going to use at home on the road. These would come in crazy handy in power outages. Should work just as well as a generator.

OR..... If you have any decent size car amps laying around you should be able to repeat a 60hz test tone, set the rail (speaker lead) voltages at 110V ac and it should work like a home plug in..... I've heard of stereo guys using this method for blenders to make slushies on the road... lol Never personally done it, but see no reason why it wouldn't work. However, I'd opt for the converters just cause of being able to use them in power outages.
