I just converted my basement 265 gallon saltwater tank to fresh water and am about ready for my first water change. How do you guys with big tanks do it ??? I used to mix my salt water in a 30 gallon garbage can using R/O water. I dont think i need anything too extravigant for my 4" RTC and TSN and assorted soon to be feeders. Do you guys just suck out the desired amount and refill with tap water of the same temp and add a water declorinator/purifirer after ??? What type/brand. I'm planning on doing around 30 gallons a shot as needed. Whats your procedures ???? Simple is good, very simple is even better.

And what type of chemicals do you use ??? My water parameters are fine, just trying to keep it that way.

thanks much

I siphon it out, and refill it straight from the tap with temp matched water. I dose enough meds to cover the entire tank (prime).

Another thing to consider is a drip system if you dont like doing water changes.

some do it different then others. the way i do it may or may not work as well for you as it does for me. some may say its not safe, some may disagree with how i do it. but 've been doin it this way for 10 years n haven't had a problem doing it this way ever and never lost a fish after a waterchange:

use a cock pump to clean ur gravel as it takes water out at the same time, do so til ur desired amount of water is out of the tank. grab ur garden hose and fill the tank back to its level. i only add water declorifier every other water change.... as long as ur water is cycled. i never do anything with water temps as my tap water doesn't come in freezing cold. it might drop the tank temp about 5 degrees if that but it reheats in a few hours. i keep my tanks at about 84ish so 79* then back up never hurts my fish.

I do 50% waterchanges every week in my 600.
I just drain the water with one hose and I gravel clean with a python. The climate here (Hawaii) is warm enough that I can fill strait from the tap. Also the water has no clorine or chemicals, so I don't need to add anything.

I do pretty much the same. If there is a temp difference, you should just fill the tank very slowly (but don't forget about it ;))..

If you're gonna add dechlor, add it before you refill (and after you drain of course).

:D
