In Your Imagination
Okay, many of you probably know I have a 300 gallon pond. But recently I've thought about turning it into a goldfish/koi pond and getting a large pool intstead. I was looking at walmart.com last night and I was thinking about either
a)http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4634029
or
b)http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5693282
or
c)http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=3163944
or
d)http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4012473
What do you guys think?
a) holds 1,779 gallons but doesn't have a window
b) holds 1,779 gallons but doesn't have a window
c) holds 1,779 gallons and has a window
d) holds 2,478 gallons and has a window

What about heating, this will be in my garage, in colorado, howmany watts do i need?
I have always heard that larger amounts of water keep their temp better, you think I could get away with like 5,000 watts and how much do you think this will effect my power bill?

unless you garage is now a closed room with heating, your bill will more than likely be up a good bit.

I visited my cousin in denver and his garage was never over 15 degrees and as low as -4.

even with that much water the heater will be on 24/7 most likely to keep it at least in the 70's.

gl, like to see it

I recommend the infalatable pool option "A" because it is easy to set up and take down. As far as heating goes on something that size...it is more efficient to heat the room rather than the pool. The pool in question I have owned for 3 years and put up/take down every year. Mine is an inflatable 18'x48".(6500g). I use the inflatable because it was $500 instead of $3000 and I didn't need permits for a temporary pool. Where I live you need underground conduit, decking, and fencing for permanent pools my size. It is for the kids anyway, so I ttook the cheaper way out and everyone still has fun.

The vinyl pools are not fungal/algicide free and will not leach fermeldahyde into the water like some rubber/vinyl products.(like cheap garden hoses do.)

In any event I would use 2lbs activated carbon in a PVC home made reactor plumbed to the pump hose before returning to the pool to safe gaurd any curing properties of the vinyl.

Talk to your water supply company about purchasing 50lbs. bags of AC from them. Then build the PVC reactor about 4' tall and create a GAC fluidized bed filter. Very simple to do with a section of 4' PVC@6" diameter. Pump into the bottom and exit the top back to the pool. The carbon will tumble in the bottom 2.5'. If the flow is too strong make the reactor taller so it doesn't flush out the carbon. Use a threaded cap on top for refill/maintenance.
