hi folks

i've been using zeolite sand/gravel in my 2 canisters (around 1-2mm grades). I'm just wondering if these media will house beneficial bacteria once it has maxed out its absorption capacity?

Various readings on the net suggest that zeolite 'hides' ammonia so beneficial bacteria won't grow in your tank while a lot of other readings (from the zeolite suppliers) suggest that because it absorbs ammonia thus massive amount beneficial bacteria will feed and grow on these media

i'm using it because it's CHEAP and if it does house beneficial bacteria thats even better because it's small and provides great surface area (and of course much damn cheaper compared to other biological filter media)

so, which of this story/fact is true for real??

i'm aware about the use of salt and the zeolite releasing ammonia back, so i dont even put any amount of salt into my tank
