I was on bigalsonline.com ( the american version) and i look at the media for a marinland emperor 400 and its 12.99 for a pack of four, then i got excited because at big al store near my house its 19.99 for a pack of four cartridges. Then i realised i was on the american big als website, so i went to the canadian version, found the exact same media and they are selling ti for 21.99? for the exact same one on the american big als.

Is there a way that i could get a price match or discount lol?

doubtful.

even though our dollar fluctuates relative to the US dollar, the prices on big al's canada rarely change.

but there have been exceptions.

back in 2008 when our dollar was very strong (above the US dollar), the Big Als stores around me actually changed their pricing to reflect that, and I got a brand new Rena XP3 for 139 canadian including tax. they normally go for 199 + tax.

but that didn't last long. a few months later all pricing was back up..

Aw that suks, cuase i could be saving alot on filter cartrdiges.

Think it really just a matter of time. If the US dollar keeps declining or stays near parity with canadian dollar I am sure you will start to see prices adjust, but obviously they cant do it constantly and dont want prices to swing wildly with currency valuations.

Get reusable sponge and cut it to fit the filter, I haven't bought replacement filter "cartridges" in many years.

It really is a shame that we, as Canadians have to pay such inflated prices, especially when the US and Canadian Dollars are almost at par.

With the Canadian Big Al's site, I suggest you check the in store price if you have a Big Al's close, as some items are priced lower in store than on the website.

true, but all our big als have the great steel tube stands available made by Hamilton manufacturing that are amazing yet cheap, and in the US tube steel stands cost a bundle so I hear because no one carries them. you pretty much have to have them custom built..which costs money.

so there is good and bad :)
