Has anybody ever been successfully with pairing better yet breeding a larger a female w/ a smaller male? I'm sure there are a few out there who were successful so I'd like to hear your experience. What species? Size of female and male? Any methods/pointers which helped you? I'd be even more interested in hearing about a significantly smaller male pairing w/ up a much larger female. I personallly have never seen this before so if you were able to play matchmaker, I'd like to hear your experience.

my managuense cichlids would be of example. my male is 10 inches and my female is pushing 5 inches. breeding when that small stunts their growth badly for females. so she will most likely stay that size. but it just happened. i adopted them from someone getting rid of them and they never bred before they was in my tank. maybe its because i do water changes and actually feed the things haha. their last owners were mean. but i dont really have many pointers other than if its a cichlid give them caves or flower pots or plants, some sort of shelter. and they will mate like crazy.

Thanks for your inputs but I was hoping to hear of a female being larger than the male. Did you mean the opposite in that your female is 10in and your male is 5in?

Lol. good one bobby:) i will follow this thread and see what others say. good question. i also think it woud depend on how close to same size they were. if the two were similair with female bein larger then no prob. ive seen a dovii pair once where male was like 5 and female 8 and it seemed fine. it depends on the fish and as long as both are of mature size for breeding. i think its possible as long as female doesnt completely dominate the male. always a safe option would be to use dividers til they give in;)

Yupp the first Female Jag I paired with my male was tons bigger. She was about 13" and he was just getting to maybe 8-9". The female was a monster. Once he 12" though he got too aggro and killed her. Still they were the best pair I ever had. I still have the male.

There's photo's of the actual pair in my photo gallery. You can tell from those how significantly bigger she was.
