about two months ago i restarted my 10 gallon aqurium, now i have 3 cory cats and two fantails (one medium and one small; recently puchased) in it and i want to put them all in a bigger tank so they can have more room. the biggets tank i can fit in my room would probrably be a 30-40 gallon (Tall) tank. would this be big enough for them? i have also been thinking about adding some sort of fillter feeder(clams) to the bigger set up......any info you have is welcome

BIgger is better but a 40 gallon should be adequete for 2 fantails as long as your doing regular water changes and maintaining your filters well. filter feeders such as clams are very challenegeing to feed and maintain ime.

Most people typically look for deals around a dollar per gallon, look around craigslist until you find something - and remember even if you can't find anything right away, patience is the most important thing on craigslist.

ok cool, i tried petsmart.com put their stuff is high priced, theres a pet shop down at the beach that i can try.

Try craigslist. Don't buy new! New is a rip off and not worth it!

Try to get the biggest tank you can. IMO a 40 gallon is a bare minimum for 2 fantails alone, not including the cories (but they don't take up much space.) Make sure your filtration turns over @ least 10x the tank's capacity to keep up with the amount of waste goldfish produce. You will also want to watch your nitrAtes, goldfish are very sensitive to levels much higher than 20, and 40 is an absolute maximum for them before they start to develop swim bladder issues, pop-eye and other stress induced ailments.

When you do get your bigger tank, put the smaller tank's filter on the bigger tank until the bigger tank's filter can catch up. Or you can keep both on there for the added biomedia. I have at least two filters on all of my goldfish tanks.
