Hey Guys, a few days ago I post a thread aboud a 30 gallon tank my cuz was getting well now he's planning on purchasing a 65 gallon tank! The 30 gallon was meant for his room, but then he decided to get a larger one to be placed in the living room. Now I'm helping him research on marine fish because I have a lot of experince on freshwater fish and now I must research on salt water. Also do you mine helping me with fish decisions?

Do you guys think Live Aquaria is a good site for info based on fish tank sizes?

Such as for the panther grouper says on liveaquaria.com they require a tank of at least 300 gallons is that true? Because they have fish that are larger that can live in smaller quarters? Thanks A million!

most likely
the recommendations on gallon size is less then what is needed to house the fish

Seriously? So Panther Groupers aveargely grow to 1 ft 6 or about or 18 inches. So a fish at that size would need a tank larger the 300 gallons? I would think a 180 gallon tank would be a good size for one. Woudn't you think so? I'm not an expert just curious, these fish are active I assume...

A 180 gal would be ok for a panther grouper for awhile, but yes a 300 plus would be better for long term.

my advice about housing any fish is don't rely on suppliers or LFS research the species and chat with other hobbyist who have been in the game awhile that have nothing to gain by you buying that fish or not but. For the most part Live Aquaria is pretty good with there recommendations for tank size.

agree with above said, for the most part liveaquaria is pretty good. occasionally they undershoot proper tank size.

also bioload ratios in marine are less then fresh, so less fish go in to saltwater tank then similar fresh tank
