Just wondering for what I'm in for as to what's the biggest achara catfish known in private aquariums?

A couple of mine were 2'. Grew very slowly if any after that. Lived in a 40'x6'x3' pond.

Hard to photograph in a dark basement pond.

reason why I ask is because I have him in a 265g tank that I got specifically for him knowing it was the bare minimum for life...now, the tank is 24" wide and the back of his tail curves inward when he's facing us. I'd want to say it makes him ~29" as the curve takes the entire tail fin plus goes into his body quite a bit. i lost track how long we've had him for...at least 4 years, maybe 5. I just wanted to know what's the maximum they can grow to as I've read various things online.

I have 3 leiarius pictus in the 2 foot range and 1 leiarius marmoratus at about 28-30 inches, and a 3ft leiarius x tsn hybrid

ya ill give it a try
will have one up by tuesday night

Well, it looks like the overall picture is consistent: PCF says 31.5 SL (perhaps ~38" TL) http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=245

and we have you and Aquaculture reporting an about 30" TL.

I've seen pics where they did look like 3-footers easily. I've personally witnessed such a fish after 10 years in a 90 gal. He was only 2 feet and very skittish (his barbels easily touched front and back glass simultaneously - not good).

Usually, when the manufacturer says the tank is 24" wide, it is the outside width. The glass is at least 1" thick, so inside it is 22".

well ya I was going to open up another thread in the media lounge for my cat pictures sorry for the aggravation. no disrespect was intended. By the way Bigger nice achara
