I have been reading about these guys and watching the threads in fascination over the size and quality of the fish some of you folks have. I was wondering if you keepers of the gigas could chime in with a survey answer about how big yours is :naughty: and what size tank you keep them in. I thought it would be fun in one place to see how big some of these fellows can get in captivity. Some day I would hope to have a tank big enough to have one. Right now I have paima envy.

Most are posted in the arapaima thread, check it out.

A fish should get just is big in a captive environment as it does in the wild. If it doesn't, the keeper messed up.

I believe the record is 15 feet. big

I have a 55 gallon. Thats a huuuuuge tank.

I think I may do a school of 6 of them...

(Yes, I'm kidding)

We have a 5 footer and its 4 years old, man these guys grow fast! We bought it at 7 inch long and in 6 months its having difficulty moving in a 100 gallon tank.:nilly:

I'll go ahead and say it - you need a bigger tank, it's not growing at a good rate.
My two year old was well over 6 feet long.
