I was just wondering what u guy think is the best canister filter for the money is...take into account ease of care...media price...less leaks and performance.

i have two xp 3's and and am really debating on if not I will get an fx 5 or an xp 4 to put on my new 300gl. The rena's are such good and reliable filters for the money but I can get the fx 5 wich will handle a little more water for like 30$ more

Best bang for the buck are Eheim Classic series. Not the easist for maintainence but that's a different question.

Rena XP3

lots of room for media
powerful
priming is a non issue (fill it up and plug it in)
and I like the fact that it comes with different output options (spray bar or powerjet nozzle) thats a nice touch no one else has.

I agree i have an Xp4 and its proven to be a really quality canister filter. Easy to setup, clean, and narrow so easy to store out of the way.
My only complaint so far is haveing to replace the impellor on it, and i think it may be going again, when my other filters on the tank (3 FX5's and two fluval U4 internals) have run without fail overe the same period. The oldest filter (a 4 year old FX5) has also had an impellor replaced.

i got my fx5 for $235, so thats my vote, and that's the price my lfs sells them.

Geeze my LFS's sell them for $300+, which is ridiculous. I found mine of ebay for $260. I'm going with the FX5, too. You get what you pay for. To be honest, I personally think all premium filters are good. It's just a matter of preference, really. I think you need to examine if you want a higher end, mid-level or lower end product. Find what level works for your situation.
