My biggest Bass died today.. He'd been acting weird since last night, staying on the bottom underneath my driftwood.

The only thing I can think of this: He'd been eating full, mostly frozen bloodworm cubes that I would drop in for my new cichla. He'd done this before, so I didn't pay any attention to it. He would hold it in his mouth for a while before swallowing it and coming back for more. I fed the fish quite a few cubes of bloodworms cause the new ones were too shy to get some at first. I honestly don't know how many the big guy ate, or if this is even what killed him. But he started acting weird right after I started feeding the BW again, so I can only assume.

What do you guys think? Could he have eaten too many? Could the cold temp of the cubes do something lethal to his insides? I doubt he choked cause he died a while after this mornings feeding. Looking forward to your responses thanks.

Oh BTW, I tested levels this morning and again just now and everything is in check so it's not that

This could be unrelated but bloodworms are collected in unsanitary conditions, often time they are collected from sewer systems. They have a reputation for potentially transferring disease and/or contamination. Although I have personally fed them over the years on occasion with no problem but I try not to.

look at the nutritional values of blood worms. They're empty of all nutrition and are pretty much like feeding candy for life instead of a balanced nutritious meal. You can use them as treats but don't use them as a staple.

Im only feeding them the bloodworms cause the new cichla didn't eat for 2 weeks and I didn't want them to starve or get sick from being weak

What is the tank temp?
What size was the bass?
What size is the tank?
What are the tank mates?
What's the filtration?

Does your tank have "dead spots" spots? That would be my guess.

Temp is 84
Bass was 4 inches
Tank is 5x2x2 150 gallon
Tankmates: 6 other cichla 3 -3.5 inches, silver arowana about 7 inches, 3 tinfoil barbs 3 inches and avocado pleco 3.5 inches
Filtration is 2 AC 110's one on each side of tank

I don't think my tank has dead spots as I have plenty of flow. I'm really starting to think he over ate

And don't worry I'm not going to keep all of these fish. I want to keep the 4 nicest bass and the silver in the end

feeding frozen cubes of bloodworms or other frozen food without defrosting it isn't good for fishes anyway (correct me if I'm wrong)
