BIGGEST cold freshwater fish for ponds

Hi folks,

New to the forum and it's got me thinking...

Long time koi keeper from Australia and I'm becoming interested in finding pond fish that grow bigger than koi and cope
with water temps ranging between 10 and 30 degrees celcius. Preferrably a species that tolerates other fish in the pond.
Best I've come up with so far is Murray Cod though from what I read they are relatively aggressive and best kept on their own.

Any other suggestions much appreciated!

Cold water fish wise I'd say sturgeon but that aside Koi's are pretty much one of the biggest you will get in the pond world. Nothing like a 30"+ and very robust Kois roaming the pond and feeding at the surface during feeding time. Other than that Catfishes and Hi Fin Sharks. Hi Fins get just as big is Kois just not as robust.

some sturgeon can get 20 feet or more but you will die before it can get that big!
but sturgeon can't tolerate the temperature higher than 20 degree Celsius for a long period of time! you are in Australia, so maybe you should get some Australian native cat fish.
 
From Murray Cod descriptor page:

"Feeding Habits

Murray cod consume a wide variety of prey. They ingest virtually anything that takes their fancy, including waterfowl, rats and carp. Beer cans, bottle tops and other shiny debris have also been reported from the stomach of Murray Cod."


Koi is on their grocery list! lol


My first thought was Sturgeon, too, but also think about the various Channel cat species... You probabl ywon't see them except when feeding though. Maybe an Albino?
 
Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Catfish or sturgeon seem like a possibility though they are an aquired taste. Just after one or two large feature fish to accompany my koi but seems like all the ones I like (and are legal in Aus) would eat my koi for breakfast lol! Might be better off trying to grow a monster chagoi.

They can get large.
