How big was it? I strictly stuck to smaller-ish bottom-feeders for the most part, but I got a baby Gibb for next to nothing (might have been free, actually) so I said "Ok, I'll do ONE BIG one", but my others are clowns and Bulldogs and small stuff. I had 2 Pardalis years back that topped about 16-18" in only 2-3 years, and I heard Gibbiceps, another of the Sailfinned-species get over 16" as well. Is it common or once-in-a-blue-moon or what? It's not a big deal, I mean....I've done it all before, but i'm still curious.

Also, How many other types of "Sailfin" Plecos are there besides Pardalis and Gibbiceps??

Years ago I had a nice gibby that I grew to about eight inches.....not sure how that ranks on the size scale but it was certainly one of the most enjoyable plecos that I can recall having...very active.

I personally had one at 15 inches(Sailfin). My eye doctor's office has one at 21 inches(the biggest one I've seen). I've heard(without proof) of someone claiming to have one at 2 feet.

Any of the Pterygoplichthys could be considered a 'Sailfin'. Rhinos, L001, and disjunctivus are just a few examples. Not all make it to the 20 inch mark. Rhinos and L001s are smaller.

Here's the different Pterygoplichthys

The one in my avatar was 14" when it died unexpectedly about 3 months ago, it was only two years old. It was a cool fish I don't miss the poop. I have another same age that's only about 8", and a third about 5" but that's about 5-6 months old, so this may become a whopper as well.

I have one at 20" and an albino at 21"

It's always an awesome sight to see a huge gibbiceps, I'd love to see a set-up with cardinal tetras and a single huge pleco parting the waves lol
