So I took a break from my yard work this morning and turned on the tv to this guy's fishing show.This particular episode had him at different locations in Miami looking for what he calls Butterfly Peacocks.He caught a few nice lookers that appeared to be twelve and fifteen inchers and he identified thèm as occels.Anyone ever seen this episode?

I don't recall being aware that cichla were game fish status down there.The guide mentioned that only two of them per person was allowed.
 
Because of their similarity to NA bass in terms of fight and their much faster growth rate, the state of FL introduced PBs to FL waters to boost the state's sportsfishing industry. Much the same way the govt transplanted LMBs and striped bass west of the Rockies.
 
Okay,I recall reading that they were introduced to those waters so I guess it would follow that they would be regulated to some extent.

They were introduced to help control other invasive species (cichlids and tilapia). The ones around my area I wouldn't consider gamefish as the are a little to easy to catch and usually small (1-3lbs).
Now the ones in the amazon are gamefish reaching 20lbs and actually a little harder to catch.
