bio bale in diy moving bed filter

First of it's ball*. But what I use for my moving beds is K1 Kaldness filter media. It's far superior than any other bio media.

It that is the case I don't think you will get the same fluidity out of the bale because it is intertwined as opposed to k1 type media that is free moving. The bale will continue to move but I would also think there might be more air needed to get it to fluidize, or boil, versus the smaller k1.
