better would depend on the application. In general...more serface area = better bio-filtration but you also have to take into concideration water flow and the design of the filter itself. My personal favorite are the simple sintered glass rings sold by the pound rather than boxed by brand...

They may be better then bioballs, for a wet/dry you would be better off using pot scrubbies, and they are a fraction of the price.

Hard to beat scrubbies for serface area/cost. They come in fairly high on the 'bang for the buck' scale. I used them in the last Bio-tower I built.

The nylon type sold in the huge bargan bags and actully called scrubbies.

So I guess they are just regular old scrubbies. Have a tank full of scrubbies probably looks kinda weird, but if it works, Thanks, Wolf and Bderick
