I use DIY bio-fractionation on my ponds, and on a line of tanks indoors. Here's a little video demonstration of how it works, as I learn to use the GoPro
This Bio-fractionator is on a small 500 gal pond that contains a few goldfish and a koi.
A bit of a storm this morning pushed a lot of silt into the pond, so the fractionator automatically kicked into high gear to meet the challenge.
The bio part is pumped water running over beneficial bacteria living as biofilm on lava rock in a vertical tube, and while cascading over the rock, the air water interface tension separates DOC, other nitrate precursors, free floating algae and debris from the water as foam, which drips onto the ground allowing cleaner water to return to the pond.
