Is it really effective at Biological filtration? I heard from another forum that it wasn't porus and that it needed to be replaced with a sponge. What do you think? Is this true?

Yea, explains everything... Just like the vortex turbocharger (propeller looking) thing you stick in of your fuel injection, or putting magnets on your fuel line to align the atoms in the fuel for better ignition. Worthless.

Bio-filtration comes after you get rid of the garbage in the water, bacteria need more surface area, don't think that would handle the bio-load of a 10g w/ one goldfish. It's even smooth plastic.

It is not really smooth plastic. It has a rough texture to it. It never clogs and has no wheel to stop. It doesn't require any special tubing or valves. It seems to be perfect! I seem to love the mechanical and chemical filter. It has a tight seal design so there is no water by-pass.

Then only one way to find out for sure...Get one and test it for six months. Follow all directions perfectly and post your data, I'd love to see the results.

I'd do it but I have too many filter projects going now and most are going to last 3-9 months and customers want their data too (design prototypes & proof of performance).

I can't find any bio-load specs for the biogrid which bothers me.

The filter also incorporates a mechanical & charcoal/chemical filter so it would have have to be compared to another HOB w/o the grid. Would be nice to setup two of these and remove the grid from one for a really true comparison test of the biogrid.

The more I think about it the more I think I've seen this before, years ago, some type of labyrinth system but on a large scale.

I'll look back in my reference files and see if Ican dig up anything.

They look like crap IMO, Penguin, Emperor, or AC would be much better.

I think he's more interested in the biogrid...
