bio just crashed need help asap

my buddy bio just crashed

he is currently housing
1 rtg
1 marble motoro
6 indo dats
4 loaches
1 plat senegal
1 ornate
1 flagtail

in a 180 acrylic.

need help asap

forgot to mention he is running a 20 gallon sump and a xp4

That's not much to go by on. Did your friend change anything in the setup? eg add new fish, large wc, replace substrate, etc? Need more info dude

he said he did a water change and fed the fish shrimp.

tested water .25 for nitrate.

a little nitrate no problem bio must be working

a nitrate level means things are working what about the nitrite and ammonia.

First, if it measures for nitrates then the bio-filter is working. If you have ammonia or nitrItes then he has a problem.

If you have a canister, give him 70-80% of your ceramic media. Bacteria multiply exponentially so that should be enough to rapidly re-seed his filter media.
