Bio-load of a ray?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Monthly cost of food depends on the size of the rays. My 5.5'' retic goes throuh about $12 of black worms every 5 days and my two motoros go through a pound of food every 4 days which is $3.50 for a 1lb bag of smelt.

That isn't too bad. I have six 5 inch cichlids and a 6 inch green terror, and a 9 inch pleco. do you think my tank is ready to handle a ray? Will I need to get rid of any of these fish besides the pleco. I know it will irritate the ray, according to my readings.

I would probably get rid of the pleco and GT. What are the other cichlids, if they are to agressive I would get rid of them aswell. When a ray burys itself their eyes look like snails and it would be horrible if one of the cichlids went for an eye.

Also that is just the smelt for the motoros. I also feed them shrimp and earthworms. They can eat 24 dozen earthworms in about 3 weeks and they get 3 shrimp each a day and that is $5.99 a lb. Their main diet is smelt though.

Ditch the cichlids... don't take a chance!!! They are probably all too aggressive for a ray. But your aquarium can handle a ray.

Sorry... I missed the part where you are from california. They are illegal in cali!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would ditch the GT and the pleco. each for their own reasons.

Speaking of bio load, how do you guys get the poop out of your tanks?
I use a hose and siphon it out
