I'm Over Here Now
i'm not sure if it's just my imagination, but since i have my fish off live foods and on pellets it seems that the overall bio load has decreased significantly. just wondering if this is true or not, or if anyone else has noticed this as well.

I would say that you might be on to something ...since I went to almost exclusively flake and pellet tanks seem easier to clean

I have to be the one who disagrees lol...i find pellets to b dirtier opposed to feeding live....shrimp is a very clean source of food though. Raw of course. It may be that your not overfeeding with pellets.

My tanks who are only fed conditioned feeders are by far the cleanist in my house whereas my pellet smashes are extremly messy and require almost daily water changes.

Bioload = ammonia? I thought there wouldn't be a difference between live food protein and pellet protein. As long as the same amout of protein is in the diet, it should convert to the same amount of ammonia, right? Maybe the total protein level is lower?

It may seem that live is less likely to produce the inevitable ammonia, but I believe it is easier to over feed with live. Fish will eat less in pellets than in feeders,(gram for gram). There is more usable nutrition in a quality prepared food, generally speaking. Less needed to feed, therefore less waste.

Perhaps some of the pellets aren't being eaten? Crushed pellets on the bottom of a tank always reminds me of poop. It'd make a great fake fish poop prank. Scare the crap out of your fellow mfker on april fools. Lol. Idk I'm just guessing. Sound plausible?
