Hey whats up guys. So i had three extra new boxes of bio max kicking around and i decided to put them in my 8 inch midas is 75 gallon to see what happens. Was a bare bottom tank before i put it in. Pretty much just a exsperiment dont need it for bio got plenty just curious what it will do in that condition. My quistion is will they just turn into little algea balls in the long run after being in there after a while or what will actual happen. Will they still grow a bunch of bb and be usefull or will they be unbenifical just collect algae. I would assume they would do alot more if say you had enought to cover the hole bottom of the tank and sat on top of a under gravel filter. Dont really know hence the reason for the exsperiment. I havent ever seen any one waste bio max by using it for substrate. Any one every tried it? Or what are on your thoughts on what the end result will be. Useless, beneficial, or bad

it will basically be acting as substrate. it will harbor some bb but not as much if you had it in a filter.

thanks for the reply. I get that it isnt going to harber even close to the amount of bb as in a filter. Any one else

Ok so after thinking about it for awhile i guess the real quistion for comparison here. Is how much more bb in theory will bio max hold compared to small pebble size gravel

I would think alot more just based on available surface area. Biomax is very porous too. Should function pretty well, plus it'll give your Midas something to play with. Mine constantly moves the river rocks around and gets really pissed after I mess them up after a water change lol

I think you'd get some benefit from it. How much depends on how much flow is hitting them

Agreed with the air movement. If i had a under gravel filter i would hitch it up and put a bunch on top but i dont use them for any thing. And not interested in buying one just for this lol. Just a exsperiment that i have wanted to try for awhile. I am mainly curious to c how much they collect and what grows on them out of curiousity. I have a tottal of 7 boxes of bio max in the filter on this tank water is allway crystal.
