Out Back In The Woods!
Im currently in the process of turning my Xtra 55Gal into a Butterfly Koi Grow-Out Tank For
my Daughter and re-doing the Filtration.. Doing a DIY Filter and gonna use Pot Scrubbies from my other 55Gal w/ my (3) 8" RTCx TSN Hybrids grow-out tank to seed her tank... talked to a guy at the LFS when purchasing Hikari Growth Koi Pellets and asked him about their Filtration and he said that one thing they do differnt from other LFS Filtration they use Air Stones under their media... would having 2 Air Stones under the Pot Scrubbies Benefit the BB in any way or is it just a waste of time & money...the guy claimed it would replicate what K1 Kaldness does just not moving the media but knock Dead/Dying BB off to allow new BB to thrive... Is this True or just BS??? If so what are the benefits??? & should i add a couple to my daughters DIY Filter???

Depends how you are using pot scrubbers. If using pot scrubbers as submerged media, then adding airstones underneath will help. However, if using pot scrubbers as wet/dry media, then airstones underneath will not add anything significant.

I'm interested in this too. I put a little air stone under the submerged part of the wet/dry section in my sump. I'm not really sure if it is doing anything but my params are good so I kept it in there. I know there are anaerobic bacteria that colonize in the submerged area but I figured one airstone wouldn't disrupt the bacteria. It does make a bit of noise bubbling up through my submerged matrix though. I'm curious if anyone else has thoughts about this.
