Maybe this has been addressed before so I do apologize, but I'm fairly new to the boards and wanted some opinions from people who have used both.

I have used Efisubstrat Pro and the fluval. They both work so to say that one is 'better' than the other would be silly for me to say since they both did the job that was intented. I am a resuts oriented person and aslong as the results are good I give it a thumbs up. Currently I am using the Efisubstrat Pro in my cans and Fluval in my HOB's.

Thanks for all of your replies, and I realize my question is not so easily answered because I too have been using Eheim's bio non-pro for many years 10+ and have had no problems but I guess what I'm really asking is has anyone done any informal testing btwn the diff. media and come up with a conclusion stating that A brand is better than B? The price btwn the 2 is very significant in my opinion and that's the primary reason for the input.

Funny you should ask!! I just read this article from Seachem regarding testing done with Seachem Matrix, Eheim SubstratPro & JBL Micromec. It seems to be well written, although very technical in areas (hard to follow, for me), but I did find it interesting reading. Here is the link - http://www.seachem.com/support/SpecificSurface.pdf

I am using Eheim SubstratPro in most of my Eheims though I do have some Substrat tucked into an AC 110. Maybe I'll try some of the Seachem Matrix when I need to renew my bio media.

I have a few liters of Matrix I an dont care for it. It just like a bunch of rocks.
